Our Story
Urban Yard was born out of a challenging time for Landon and Jody Friesen. After Landon was laid off in the spring of 2020, he saw an opportunity to pursue a long-held dream of owning his own business. With a decade of landscaping experience under his belt, he launched Urban Yard that April with the goal of providing top-notch yard care services to the southeast Manitoba community.
It didn't take long for the team to grow. Owen Peters was our very first employee, and in 2022, he took a big step, becoming a partner in the business. From the start, we've focused on growing and improving. We shifted from general yard care to specializing in landscaping, so we could really perfect our craft.
In 2023 we decided to put all our energy into what we do best: landscaping! This change allowed us to focus on what matters most—training our team and perfecting our processes to ensure every client gets the consistent, high-quality experience they deserve.
Then, in 2024, we took a giant leap, moving our entire operation to our own property just outside of Steinbach. None of this would be possible without the amazing support of our community.
Now in 2026, we have brought together the landscaping expertise with Schalla Lawn Care. Urban Yard is now able to offer maintence from the people we trust!
